1. Where can I get a copy of version 3.0 software for my Digital 8 Bus?

2. Do I have to pay for an upgrade to Version 3.0?

A: Version 3.0 is free. It is bundled with the UFX cards and is available as a free download at www.mackie.com

3. What exactly is a "plug-in"?

A: A plug-in is a Software based effect processor, which runs on a specific operating system-in our case the Mackie OS. Plug-ins can be purchased from a Mackie Digital Systems dealer. The amount of plug-ins you can use at one time is determined by the number of MFX or UFX cards you have installed in the Digital 8 Bus. Once you have purchased a plug-in you may use it as many times as your available effect cards will allow.

4. What do I need to run a third party "plug-in"?

A: A UFX card is required to run any of the third party plug-ins or the Mackie Mono Delay, which comes bundled with the UFX card.

5. Does the UFX card come with any effects by itself?

A: The UFX is sold with the TC Electronics Reverb and the Mackie Mono Delay already loaded as a standard option. Additional effects are purchased individually.

6. What new plug-in effects are available with V3.0?

A: Antares Auto Tune, Drawmer ADX100, Massenburg® MDW2X2, Acuma Delay Factor, Acuma Filter Machine and the Acuma Time Pack. TC Reverb and the new Mackie Mono delay are free with the UFX card.

7. What happens if I remove all of my MFX cards and install only UFX cards?

A: You will no longer able to run any of the Mackie Effects or the IVL Vocal studio.

8. Can I run multiple copies of a plug-in without buying multiple copies?

A: Each plug-in can be used up to sixteen times, depending on how many UFX cards are installed on the D8B. If you have 4 UFX cards installed you will be able to run 16 settings for Auto-Tune; or 16 Channels of Drawmer compression; 8 mono or 4 stereo channels of Massemburg EQ, 8 channels of stereo Acuma plug-ins.

9. Where can I assign my plug-ins?

A: UFX/MFX insert points are available for all channels on the console, including busses 1-8 and the main L-R mix. Plug-in inserts can be either pre or post the existing channel dynamics/EQ. Any of the Aux sends can be used to route signals to the Plug-ins.

10. Can I use other DAW plug-ins in the D8B?

A: The D8B supports plug-ins that are designed to work specifically with the Mackie Realtime OS.

11. I have to switch between my fader banks constantly. Does Version 3.0 make this easier for            me?

A: Cross Patching is a new feature in 3.0 which allows you to customize each fader bank-giving you control over any channel from any fader bank. You can even move your group master fader control right next to the set fader group, or move the FX return for your vocals right next to the dry vocal channel.

Also, V3.0 has a Dual View function, which allows you to view two fader banks at once. The tape return channels are displayed across the top portion of the screen with the bottom portion displaying the currently selected fader bank.

12. Have there been any changes to the channel dynamics processing?

A: In addition to several huge feature enhancements, we have completely changed the sound of the dynamics processor -- making it smoother and entirely more natural sounding.

top

13. What new surround mixing features does the new software provide?

A: Version 3.0 provides three main enhancements to the D8B's surround mixing capabilities, making it one of the most powerful surround mixers in its class.

First, a LFE (Low Frequency Enhancement) control allows you to increase or decrease gain from individual channels to the subwoofer output. Second, a Depth of Center control lets you adjust the strength of each channel's image to the center speaker. Third, a new global "Pan View" greatly enhances the graphic display of all panning by displaying the surround window for channels 1-72 in one global window.

14. How does Version 3.0 affect the auxiliary functions of the D8B?

A: All auxiliary sends are switchable between Pre or Post on a per channel basis. Aux 1-8 will be selectable between Pre/Post fader on a global level, while Aux 9/10 & 11/12 default to Pre Fader, but have the ability to be selected Post/Pre fader on a per-channel basis.
