Maizitis' "Dance of the Druids"

to complete this recording, which uses both electronic and acoustic instruments.
Hard to categorize the sound, but it has elements of new age and classical
in it.”
From Cleveland, Ohio, to Latvian Public Radio, composer Peter Maizitis
is creating quite a name for himself. His genre-bending CD “Dance
of the Druids” has received considerable press and has received extensive
airplay in the United States, Brazil, and Latvia. Latvian
National Radio, Latvia’s equivalent to our NPR (National Public
Radio), is planning on making a mid-summer ritual of playing the entire
album on their three FM bands as well as their website.
“Dance of the Druids” was a pure labor of love for Maizitis.
He began working on the music back in the early 1990s, but unfortunately,
it was Princess Diana’s untimely death in 1997 that inspired the
final cohesive link to the project. Maizitis then composed an eloquent
story to go along with the music in memory of the Princess. The CD was
recorded and mixed using a Mackie CR1604.
“ I chose the CR1604 for several reasons,” Maizitis said. “For
one, I was impressed with the headroom, which seemed to be as expansive
as the Grand Canyon. Not being a professional sound engineer, I needed
a board that was forgiving and believe me, it forgave me.”
Final mastering took place in Cleveland by engineer David Yost, who is
also noted for his work with Michael Stanley and Mark Dwane. Friend and
colleague, Andy Russell contributed the artwork for the album cover. Russell
designed the album cover for Spyro Gyra vibraphonist Dave Samuel’s
“Natural Selection,” which featured Bruce Hornsby and members
of the Yellow Jackets.
