The
Assign Section
Pro Tools 4.1 is a "soft" environment where
a new channel can start without DSP or sends. The HUI Assign
section is where internal mix bus and physical hardware
I/O assignments are made. V-Pot assignment control includes
SENDS A through E, PAN, and channel/bus INPUT &
OUTPUT.
A
dedicated 4-character LED strip SELECT ASSIGN displays
the current V-Pot or I/O assignment.
The Channel Strip
Any
channel strip in Pro Tools 4.1 can be configured as an aux
return, a group or main master, or a plain ol' channel strip.
You can configure Pro Tools' "soft" channels on HUI's eight
hard channels (up to as many as your DSP and channel cards
can handle). Then "scroll" through them at lightning speed
via bank and channel selectors.
LED
display. Meters reflect channel strip digital dB FS (full
scale) levels with 0dBfs max. When the channel strip is in
stereo mode, the two LED ladders indicate separate left/right
levels.
REC/RDY
is a track record toggle.
INSERT
calls up the DSP Plug-Ins on a channel and is also used for
plug-in bypass in tandem with (you guessed it) BYPASS.
V-Pot™
and V-Pot™ function selectors. Channel strip V-Pots™
are either PAN (default) or an aux send (one assigned at a
time) Channel V-SELs act as send mute, pre/post, and assign
toggles.
AUTO
toggles automation modes, relative to the AUTO ENABLE and
MODE as defined in the switch matrix or on screen.
SOLO
& MUTE are the standard mixing
functions.
"Scribble"
strip. Think of it as endless digital masking tape! Because
Pro Tools 4.1 does not have numbered channel strips, HUI has
a "soft" 4-character LED display that shows a truncated version
of the channel's title, or status of grouping, routing, and
other parameters.
SELECT
chooses a channel for editing, grouping, automation, assignment,
routing, DSP, decaf, or leaded.
Eight
Touch-sensitive 100mm faders. Even in full motion, the
conductive sliders respond immediately to touch control bypassing
the need to press a separate enable or disable button. The
fader motor uses a high-resolution, tightly-tuned servo amplifier
to reduce annoying fader chatter. The default resolution is
9 bit. Fader life is dramatically extended with a long-wearing,
conductive plastic fader track.
Because
automation is customarily done in "passes," eight faders are
considered the maximum that can be physically manipulated
at one time (unless you have an octopus for an assistant).
