Q.
What do I need in order to use a 3rd-party D8B plug-in
besides
a D8B?
A. A large mixing bowl, two cups of sugar and several ripe olives.
But seriously,
folks, Digital 8Bus third-party plug-ins require Mackie OS
3.0 and one or more UFX Universal Effects cards. Each UFX card comes
with a demo disk of all available plug-ins. Once youve purchased
a plug-in, simply log onto www.mackie.com, go to the Plug-in Authorization
page and enter a couple of serial numbers. In seconds youll
receive an e-mail with an authorization number to un-lock your new
plug-in.
Q. One or more UFX cards?
A. Yes. The number of plug-ins available at any given time depends
on the individual requirements of the plug-in and the number of
UFX cards installed.
UFX cards are 4-in/4-out, which means each card can simultaneously
support either:
four mono effects, or
two mono and one stereo effect, or
two stereo effects
Up to four UFX cards can be installed in the D8B. In this configuration,
you can run up to 16 channels of mono plug-in effects or 8 channels
of stereo plug-in effects simultaneously.
Q. Whats the difference between a UFX card and an MFX card?
A.One MFX card is included with each Digital 8Bus. It is used
to "power" Mackie Reverb and Effects.
It also provides processing for IVLs superb Vocal Studio plug-in.
During a free demo period, IVL Vocal Studio gets its DSP from the
built-in MFX card. In "demo mode," Vocal Studio runs for ten
minutes at a time. To "own" Vocal Studio, you need only buy
a second MFX card.
Note:
You do not need OS 3.0 to run Vocal Studio.
The UFX card is designed to power third-party plug-ins that run
under OS 3.0 and is not needed for either Mackie Reverb and Effects,
or Vocal Studio.
Q. If I add four UFX cards (and therefore dont have room for
a second MFX card), do I have to give up Vocal Studio?
A. Yes. Vocal Studio currently works only with the MFX card.
Q. Is anything bundled with the UFX Card?
A. Yes. TC Electronics TC Reverb comes bundled with the D8B
UFX card. It provides Reverb 1 and Reverb 2 algorithms from the
renowned TC Electronic M2000. You also get the new Mackie Mono Delay.
