January 15, 2004 -
Anaheim, NAMM Convention - Mackie introduced today an optional
FireWire card for the new Onyx family
of premium analog mixers. The 24-bit/96kHz Onyx FireWire card can
be installed in any of the Onyx mixers (1220, 1620 & 1640) to
provide a combination of direct outputs (from every single input
channel on the mixer) and the L-R mix directly into a FireWire equipped
computer, and, at the same time, return 2 channels of computer audio
back to the mixer for monitoring through the control room/phones
matrix.
"Installing the FireWire option card into an Onyx mixer opens a world of application and configuration possibilities," commented
Dan Steinberg, Product Development Manager for the Onyx line. "For example, with the FireWire card installed, the mixers are an ideal
front end for a digital audio workstations or, when combined with a laptop computer, they make an affordable multitrack interface for portable
live recording."
Steinberg commented, "The development of this card also helped us to establish a FireWire platform that can be easily integrated into
future Mackie products. The possibilities are endless."
The Onyx FireWire Option
Card will be available in Q1, 2004 for a manufacturers suggested
retail price of $499.99 USD. The card, along with Mackie's new Onyx
mixers, is currently on display at the NAMM show in Anaheim, booth
number 6690.
Key Features of the optional Onyx FireWire Card:
- Operates at 24-bit/96kHz resolution
- Compatible with any Windows XP ASIO/WDM host software or any Mac OSX.3 Core Audio host software
- Provides direct multi-channel outputs for every individual mixer channel (12 channels for the Onyx 1220, 16 channels for the Onyx
1620 and 1640), as well as the main L-R mix
- Provides two channels of audio from computer to mixer for monitoring through the control room/phones matrix
- Allows daisy-chaining of two mixers together, resulting in expanded channel counts feeding into the computer
- FireWire technology allows for very low buffer settings, allowing
for monitoring through the DAW software and plug ins with no noticeable
latency
- Fully user-installable
