Here’s what’s new in Master Fader v1.4:

Vintage EQ, Compressor and Gate

Master Fader v1.4 features an entirely new selection of vintage processing. After extensive analysis, development and testing, the new vintage EQ, compressor and gate deliver the sought-after musical characteristics of your favorite industry-standard processors. The vintage compressor and gate provide a lightning-fast attack, non-linear attack/release and program dependent release making them great for drums and other transient sources. The vintage EQ captures the unique interactions between the shelving bands and the gain and frequency-dependent Q structure of the parametric band to deliver the clarity and sheen of classic EQ designs. This EQ is great for getting vocals, guitars and other instruments to sit perfectly in a mix. Now, DL users can choose between clean, surgical modern processing and the new range of classic vintage plug-ins for more flexibility in use.

Updated Show Management

A huge update to the show management and overall snapshot operation makes DL mixers even better for users with complex shows and multiple wireless devices. With DL series mixers the users can snap a photo of the band with their iPad camera or choose from a selection of handy icons and use this as channel ID. With v1.4 these images are now synched between all wireless devices connected to the mixer. The snapshot system will also store and recall these images across devices and the user can add an image to each show to help with identification. Plus, shows now load in the background, keeping all wireless devices online when a show is changed. And, of course, shows will seamlessly transfer between the DL1608 and new DL806.

We had fully intended to release Master Fader 1.4 and My Fader 1.0 by now. So where are they?

Unfortunately we have run into a few severe bugs that are proving quite difficult to fix and are preventing release. Here’s a bit more detail.

The development team has been feature complete on both Master Fader 1.4 and My Fader 1.0 for some time. This means that all the features we planned for these versions are completely implemented. Once we are feature complete, we thoroughly test all features to ensure there are no bugs. This includes complete testing of every function by internal techs, alpha testing by Mackie employees in a variety of live scenarios, and external beta testers including some of you. Quality is paramount with a product like this and we will not release an update until we are confident it is solid. We take this very seriously and know that many of put your livelihood in the hands of your mixer.

During this testing, we encountered some bugs. This is to be expected and is all part of the development process. Normally these bugs are fixed and when there are no more known issues, we release the software to Apple for App Store approval.

Unfortunately, a few of these particular bugs are taking more time than anticipated to fix, thus delaying release. We are working hard to fix these bugs and believe we are close. This means we can soon create our release candidate and do final testing, again internally and with our external beta team.

If no bugs more blocking are found, we will confidently release to the App Store. When will this happen? As soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience. Like you, we wish we could have released these updates sooner but when Master Fader 1.4 and My Fader 1.0 are released, we think you will really like the additions and improvements we’ve made.

Newly formed Tracktion Software Corporation takes ownership and launches all-new Tracktion 4

ANAHEIM, CA – January 24, 2013 – Mackie today announces the sale and transition of Tracktion Music Production Software to the Tracktion Software Corporation (TSC). TSC is led by three principals; Julian ‘Jules’ Storer, the original creator of Tracktion as well as former “Mackoids” James ‘Woody’ Woodburn and Dave Christenson.

“With Mackie’s continued focus on creating innovative hardware solutions, the choice to transition Tracktion to TSC was clear,” said Matt Redmon, Mackie product manager. “TSC is fully dedicated to the development, support and marketing of Tracktion. Their experience with the DAW market and intimate knowledge of Tracktion made them the perfect group to take Tracktion into the future.”

Tracktion is a fantastic platform that offers a radically easy approach to composing, recording, editing, mixing and sharing music on a Mac or PC. Based on a simple single-screen interface, Tracktion is the fast, powerful and complete solution for music production at any level.

“We are proud to announce not only the acquisition of Tracktion Music Production Software, but that Tracktion 4 is available immediately,” remarked James Woodburn of Tracktion Software Corporation. “New and existing users can download the powerful new software today and start working on their next project.”

Tracktion 4 will be made available via the Tracktion website (www.tracktion.com) during the 2013 NAMM show. This latest version builds on the popular features of Tracktion 3, however, with a significant upgrade. The Tracktion engine has been completely re-written such that it is now fully optimized for the very latest operating systems – both Mac and PC – along with 64-bit processing, WMA, AU and WASAPI support. This allows Tracktion to run extremely efficiently on a wide range of computers – allowing the user to get the very best performance from their system – a big plus given that Tracktion is a completely unlimited application.

As the new owner of Tracktion, TSC now also manages www.tracktion.com, the new source for Tracktion product information and application download along with product resources and a dedicated Tracktion user forum. As of January 24^th, customers purchasing a new Mackie product that includes Tracktion can download Tracktion 4 immediately. There will also be an upgrade path for existing Tracktion users via www.tracktion.com.

Mackie DL Series mixers currently support full wireless control using the new iPad (4^th generation) and iPad mini. Additionally, you can use Apple’s 30-pin to Lightning adapter cable to dock these newer devices. The iPad 2 is still sold new directly from Apple and is fully supported for use with DL mixers. That being said, we are working hard on a comprehensive solution for converting a DL mixer over to the Lightning connector and will release it as soon as possible. However, due to licensing restrictions, this is all we can say right now. Rest assured that all DL mixers will soon be able to support wired connection using Lightning without an adapter.
