TT24 Hits The Road: Thomas Dolby, BT and TT24 Consoles

Sonic innovators Thomas Dolby and BT are currently touring the U.S., delivering dynamic live performances in 5.1 surround sound. Facilitating the experience is a specialized sound system, featuring dual Mackie TT24 digital consoles as well as EAW NT Series full-range loudspeakers and subwoofers.
Veteran sound engineer Scott "Goody" Goodwine is responsible for the system, which is expressly designed to provide the surround experience in theatre and club venues of up to 1,500 capacity.
"The TT24s are working out really well for this application, and in particular, within the realm of what I need to do with monitors,” says Goody. “The presets are just outstanding; once set, they're gold, recalling perfectly each time out. I've never had to readjust anything after setting it up. This console is rock-solid stable and reliable."

Two TT24 consoles split mix duties – one is set up on stage for monitors, and the other handles front of house. All inputs/feeds first go to the stage TT24, with two discrete surround mixes and one left-right mix provided to the performers; EAW NT Series loudspeakers serve as monitors. The stage TT24 also supplies a left-right feed to Goody at the front-of-house TT24, which he uses to create a 5.1 surround mix for the house. Rounding out the house sound system are EAW NT Series loudspeakers, with NT59 speakers on stage for the center channel, and NT56 loudspeakers with NTS22 subwoofers for left and right surround.
Goody is finding the TT24 to be the perfect console for this tour, especially given the unique challenges he faces.
"The TT24 packs a lot of useful features into a very small frame, which is vital given the extremely tight space parameters we've faced at most of the venues on the tour,” he says. “Where else are you going to find a board in this price range that provides 12 aux sends, which has been perfect for our monitoring system?"
