Mackie CFX•12 Passes the Pee Test: A User's Tale

A most humorous story from a Mackie user landed in our inbox the other day. He was even kind enough to indulge us with a staged photo to illustrate his point:

I have been meaning to write to Mackie for years to commend you for your nearly indestructible construction quality and to offer you an amusing testimonial:

I have a CFX•12 mixer that I used as the soundboard for my last band. We were playing a show in the basement of a dive bar called Hal Daddy's in Baltimore, MD and had just started into our encore when water started dripping on my head. I looked up to see water pouring through the floorboards, right onto my Mackie... There were a couple sparks before I yanked the power from the amps, but unfortunately, the mixer was soaked. I later came to learn that it was in fact a toilet that had overflowed from the men's room above that had poured into my new gear. I was devastated, thinking that there was no way the mixer could have survived a dunk in a couple gallons of Bud Lite piss. Still, I decided not to give up on it or stick it on ebay and put the thing way out of the way to dry out. I tried it once or twice over the next couple days, but it continued to short out a little. Left it alone for about a week, then decided to try it again. To my amazement, the mixer worked! In fact, the sound quality seemed quite unaffected by the incident with the exception of one slider on the eq that still crackles if you adjust it with the volume up loud. Other than that, and a slightly funky odor, it has continued to work flawlessly for the last 4 yrs since then.

So thank you, Mackie, for constructing a mixer impervious to urine, beer, and god-knows-what-else you find in the men's toilet at Hal Daddy's!

I am getting into turntables now as well and have been eyeing the d.2... If you want someone to put one through its paces, I'm your man!

Thanks,
Dave K

No, thank you, Dave!
