Producer/Engineer Johnny Tech has been producing R&B, Reggae and Hip Hop music since 1984 - working along the way with such well-known artists as Ice-T, Macy Gray, and Nelly. Today, Tech is applying is extensive experience and industry expertise to his own enterprise, New Kingz Productions, a division of Hood 4 Life Records.
With a talented group of up-and-coming new Hip Hop artists already signed to New Kingz Productions including, Macadoshis, NME and the highly-anticipated rap group C-Dott, Tech is fully focused on building out his Los Angeles-based studio in order to meet the growing demand for their music. And with plenty of experience under his belt, Tech knows the importance of picking the right tool for the job.
It's no surprise, then, that Tech purchased one of the very first Mackie Digital X Bus 200 Digital Production Consoles (X.200), which he quickly incorporated as the main console in his studio. "I had a Sony console on order with a custom-built desk and everything," commented Tech. "But Don Polus at RSPE showed me the Digital X Bus and I knew right away that it was exactly what I wanted. The touch screens were a big selling point for me. I knew it would work great in our studio."
Having been a long time user of Mackie products, specifically the Digital 8 Bus, Tech quickly adapted to the X.200. "There are just so many configurations that you can do with this board. If you're not careful you can easily get into trouble," joked Tech. As the primary board in his studio, The Digital X Bus is used for all aspects of production. "I use the Digital X Bus to record audio and its Mackie Control Universal layer to control Pro Tools for mixing. It really works great, it's completely stable."
Tech incorporated four 4-channel Mic/Line I/O cards into his Digital X Bus, as well as three AES/EBU I/O cards in order to run 24 channels to and from his Pro Tools system. "Overall, I'm really satisfied with the board and have had no problems with it," stated Tech. "The work flow is much faster with the touch screens. The built in mic pres are great and the sound coming from this board is just amazing. It's so much stronger than other boards I've heard. I am really happy with this purchase."
A lifelong resident of Los Angeles, Tech and long time friend and New Kingz partner, Lamont Brumfield (a.k.a. Big Broom) are currently focused on expanding their artist line up and making New Kingz Productions as successful as their previous ventures.
