Stolen Mackie Returns:
I awoke at about 4 a.m. to flashlights and cops at my front door.
They were there to inform me that a neighbor called to report someone breaking and entering into my truck in my driveway, where I had foolishly left my equipment from the previous evening’s gig.
The thieves had already disappeared , whose plans were fortunately disrupted by the neighbor’s lights turning on. Apparently, as they made their getaway, they threw my rack with my beloved 1402 VLZ mixer in it into the nearby woods; I suppose running along a road in the dark with a sound gear rack would have drawn suspicion.
In any case, the 1402 had fallen out of the rack and onto a large rock. As the police helped me gather up the abandoned gear in the woods, I had the sinking feeling that I would need to buy a new mixer.
However, upon getting it inside, plugging it in and testing it out, the 1402 still worked like a charm.
Happy ending: Not only was my mixer snatched from the hands of thieves, but also it survived a hurtle through the woods and a hard rock landing (in fact the town I lived in is named Landing).
This happened in 1994. I am still using the prodigal 1402. It is one heck of a piece of engineering (and one lucky charm, as well!).
