This past Easter, following a gig in Carolina Beach, we observed a moment of silence (after the cussing stopped) for our 12 year old Mackie SR24-4. It had just done a swan dive off the shoulders of our big effects rack from the top of the lift gate of our truck. Thirteen panning knobs were bent parallel to the board face as if they couldn’t bear to look at the gaping hole in the side of the case. That trauma, combined with the drenching rain of a tropical storm in ‘98 and having watched it surf off a six foot high stage at the 2007 ALS Walk-a-thon brought out the “Well, this time it’s ‘toast’ for sure!”
After a few days of mourning we fired it up, hooked up the usual stuff and tested for several hours. Turns out all it needs is some cosmetic surgery (a knob job) and some detailing.
We’ve been using this deformed Mackie SR24-4 regularly since the “dive” and even provided sound for two other incredulous bands at a Myrtle Beach, S.C. charity event. The previously mentioned surgery will have to wait until the end of summer.
This really tough SR24-4 has served us well along with its’ siblings, the Mackie 32-8-2, HR824 Studio monitors, our original 1604 and several Mackie power amps.
We’d love to win your contest, but feel like winners already having gone with Mackie from the start.
