My Mackie story isn't particularly dramatic. But it shows the value of owning a Mackie in a different way.
At the time this story takes place, I was working in the keyboard/recording department of the best music store on the San Francisco Peninsula: Gelb Music in Redwood City. One of our regular customers came in one afternoon with a sob story about his 1604 mixer. He had been loading out after a job, and had set his mixer on the top of a low wall. It fell, landing on its face, crushing many of the knobs.
He asked me if I could order a set of replacement knobs. It was his own fault, he admitted, for being careless with the mixer, and he would replace the damaged knobs himself.
I called Mackie's support department and explained what we needed. After listening to the story, the representative told me to ship the mixer to Mackie, and it would be fixed. "No, you don't understand," I said. "The mixer was damaged by the customer's carelessness. He's not asking for warranty service, he wants to BUY new knobs and put them on himself."
"No, those knobs are hard to replace," was the reply. "Have him send it to us, and we'll take care of it. No charge."
I was impressed, as was my customer. Not only does Mackie make a great product, they back it up with genuine caring customer service. Thanks, Mackie, for taking care of people who make music!
