Here's my story and I'm sticking to it. I was walking through the park one day in the merry, merry month of May, I was taken by suprise by a Mackie 1202 being used as an FOH for a bluegrass band that was playing in the bandshell. I looked at that mixer and couldn't believe that someone would actually use that tiny little thing for a FOH console.
I stopped and listened to the band though, and that mixer sounded really good. I had to see what it was. Turns out it was a Mackie 1202 - the original, not the vlz type. I knew then and there that I could think of about 1,001 uses for such a mixer so I started doing some research to see just what type of mixer this little Mackie was. It turns out it was getting rave reviews in all the trade magazines so I bought one. That was the best audio purchase I have ever made, hands down. I still use it and it has never let me down.
One day, I was running sound for a little street ensemble at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore Maryland. If you have ever been to the Inner Harbor you know what a wonderful spot that is, and you know exactly where I was located because they have a street level stage there. One thing about the Inner Harbor is that they have some RC sail boats that you can rent and then cruize them around. A lady came up to me as I was running the sound and wanted to ask me something. I thought she was going to say the typical, "Can you turn it down, it's too loud" thing, however, she suprised my by asking me, "Are you controlling those boats?" I laughed so hard I almost forgot I was running sound for a concert and missed a que. So, as an audio mixer it's fantastic, as a Radio Controlled Sail Boat controller, it stinks.
